Fields | Descriptions |
Server: | Designate which server the Port Control document is intended for. ExtraFax should be able to automatically detect the server name. |
Description: | A general description of the brand & model of fax device that is attached to this port. |
Switch: | A control to turn the port ON or OFF.
ExtraFax will periodically check the status of this parameter.
If it is switched "ON", ExtraFax will automatically spawn a new process and listen for any incoming/outgoing fax(es) designated to this port.
If it is switched "OFF", ExtraFax will automatically terminate the current process controlling this port. |
Class: | The Class of the device is meant to identify the type of fax hardware that is installed. Available selections are as follows:
Field Values | Descriptions |
Brooktrout TR114 | Brooktrout TR114 - Product is discontinued and not supported by Brooktrout . Still works with ExtraFax 7.x Requires Brooktrout 4.3 device drivers. Select this value, if you are using a TR114 or a non RoHS Trufax analog fax board. |
Brooktrout TR1034/SR140 | Brooktrout TR1034 /SR140. Select this value if you have a Brooktrout TR1034 ,SR140 or RoHS compliant TruFax board. |
Dialogic | Select this value if you are using a Dialogic fax board |
Diva | Select this value if you are using an Diva fax board |
Donjin | Select this value if you are using a Donjin fax board |
GammaLink | Select this value if you are using a Gammalink fax board |
FaxModem | Selecting FaxModem allows ExtraFax to select the class (2.0, 2, 1) based on the fax modem's capability. |
Class 1, 2,or 2.0 | Explicitly selecting a fax modem's class is sometimes required when there are communication problems. For Multitech modems select Class 2 |
SMS | Selecting SMS allows ExtraFax to send and receive SMS messages through a GSM modem. |
MMS | Selecting MMS allows ExtraFax to send and receive MMS messages through a Symbian mobile. |
Mail-In Loopback | A Mail-In Loopback port is used in conjunction with the Mail-In Database Loopback setting located in the Server Configuration document. |
Local | Selecting Local allows ExtraFax to simulate sending and receiving a fax by using a virtual local loop back fax port. Typically used for troubleshooting. |
|
Mode: | Indicate whether this port is dedicated to "Send" only; to "Receive" only or it will be used to both "Send and Receive" faxes. For Fax-on-Demand, please set to "Receive". |
Port Name: | The fax port related to the port control document. If it is intended for Fax-on-Demand, please specify FOD. Most typical with standard fax modem hardware ports are assigned a COM port. e.g. COM4. More intelligent fax boards may be assigned channels e.g. CHN0, CHN1(Brooktrout, Diva), GFAX1, GFAX2 (Gammalink), dxxxB1C1, dxxxB1C2 (Dialogic) |
Port Speed: | Specify the DTE Rate of your COM port. Default is 19200 bps. This option is only available if you have selected Class 1, 2, 2.0, FaxModem, SMS or MMS in the Class field parameter above. |
Dialing Prefix: | This is primarily for companies that have their telephone lines hooked up to a Private Branch Exchange (PBX).
If required, specify the prefix necessary to acquire an outside line. Many companies require that a 9 be inserted to get an outside line. |
Dialing Suffix: | Usually this field is left blank.
This applies to certain brand of modems. You can append AT commands after the fax number to control the more settings. |
Number of Rings to Wait: | Default is 1.
On an incoming fax call, it specifies number of rings to wait before ExtraFax picks up the line. |
Concurrent Job Handlers: | Default is 5. This parameter is only applicable to a multi-port device, for example, a Gammalink fax board.
To take advantage of the multiple lines/ports attached to a Brooktrout or gammalink fax board, you can tell ExtraFax to send *multiple* fax jobs to the device concurrently. In general, you will set this parameter to be a value greater than the number of ports/lines available on the fax board. For example, with an 8-port fax board, you could set the Concurrent Job Handlers to be 12. |
Send any Job Available: | Default is Yes. This is an advanced feature that enables you to configure a port to send any job(s) that are available in the waiting queue or to only send jobs designated to this port.
If you want to designate a port to handle specific types of fax traffic only, you must set this field to "No" and then add a "FaxThroughPort" field in your job entry or User Preferences document. |
Maximum Recipients (Express Line): | Default is 9999. You can choose to designate a certain port/fax line as an Express Line. This means that a fax job will only be sent through that port if the maximum number of recipients does not exceed the value in this field.
This prevents bulk faxing from using all resources at any one time, which may adversely affect the transmission of other faxes. |
Hide Device Manager Console: | Default to No.
Sometimes used to hide the device manager console in order to help alleviate timing issues in installations where multiple fax modems (Class 1) are used. |
Detail Trace on Device Manager Console: | Default is No.
Do not change this setting unless instructed to do so by Extracomm Technical Support. It is used in troubleshooting scenarios to help facilitate problem source identification. When set to Yes, detailed trace messages will be displayed on the device manager console. |
Log Console Messages: | Default to No.
Do not change this setting unless instructed to do so by Extracomm Technical Support. It is used in troubleshooting scenarios to help facilitate problem source identification. When set to Yes, detailed trace messages will be written to a log file. The log file will be attached to the Port document when the Port is being switched off or ExtraFax is being shutdown. Additionally, event messages from each incoming/outgoing job will be attached in the individual Sent Fax Log/Received Fax Log document as devlog.txt. |
Retry Count: | On a busy signal, ExtraFax will attempt to retry sending the fax a certain number of times based on this value. If blank, the value in the server configuration document will be used. |
Retry Interval: | To control the retry interval for each outbound fax job. If blank, the value in the server configuration document will be used. |
Retry for Any Error Codes: | Default is No. ExtraFax will only retry for some specific error codes. For example "Busy" or "No Answer". When this option is Yes, ExtraFax will retry until the predefined retry count in the ExtraFax Server Configuration has been reached, regardless of the error code. |
Delivery Time Range: | If specified, ExtraFax will only send faxes/SMS/MMS within the specified delivery time range. If blank, the value in the server configuration document will be used. |
Clean Up Outgoing Faxes in Spool: | Default is "Yes". Indicate whether the outgoing fax job should be removed from the temporary spool directory once it has been processed. This feature is primarily used for problem source identification and troubleshooting.
Information pertaining to each fax job can be found in the spool directory. That includes information such as:
Images to be sent/successfully sent;
Status of the jobs;
Delivery options...etc. |
Clean Up Incoming Faxes in Spool: | Default to "Yes". Indicate whether the incoming fax job should be removed from the temporary spool directory once it has been processed. This feature is primarily used for problem source identification and troubleshooting.
Information pertaining to each fax job can be found in the spool directory. That includes information such as:
fax Images received
Status of the jobs;
Delivery options...etc. |
Current Status: | An indicator reflecting the current status of this port. It can be either Online or Offline. |
